What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.
— Oliver Wendell Holmes

Nicki Rimke is a Registered Psychologist who holds a Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology. Nicki’s past work experience, as a civilian photographer with the Canadian Armed Forces, allowed her to witness the strength and courage of individuals in traumatic situations. Nicki’s professional and personal life experiences have helped her to develop sensitivity to the many diverse and demanding concerns individuals and families face in everyday life.

Nicki’s counselling approach is Humanistic and Client-centered. She utilizes Narrative, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Art Therapy, and Gottman Method techniques with adults and couples. When working with children, Nicki uses Child-centered Play, Art, and Narrative Therapy. Nicki also has in-depth training and experience in provision of Psychoeducational Assessments for children and teens, working closely with schools and families to enhance learning opportunities for her younger clients.

Nicki’s family history of immigration and trauma has given Nicki profound compassion and insight into the stressors that individuals and families may experience when adjusting to drastic changes in their lives. Nicki’s work experience has also led to an interest in helping people cope with the aftereffects of trauma.

Nicki brings empathy, acceptance, kindness, and a quirky sense of humour to her therapeutic relationships. Nicki’s role as a mother, wife, sister, daughter, and friend allows her to empathize with each person’s unique life challenges. Nicki loves walking, gardening, and cooking. The creations from her kitchen and garden are warmly appreciated by everyone at Viewpoint!
